  • A Newborn Care Specialist (NCS) provides support to families with newborns, but their role varies depending on whether they are working during the day or overnight. Here’s a breakdown of the differences between daytime and overnight services:

    Daytime NCS Duties:

During the day, an NCS provides more hands-on care, guidance, and education. Their role focuses on supporting the parents while they’re awake and active, helping them adjust to the demands of caring for a newborn.

    • Infant Care & Feeding:

      • Assist with feeding schedules (whether breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, or both), helping with latching or bottle techniques.

      • Provide diaper changes, help with burping, and make sure the baby is comfortable.

      • Monitor the baby's sleep patterns and help with naps during the day.

    • Parent Education:

      • Teach parents about newborn care practices (diapering, bathing, swaddling, etc.).

      • Offer advice on infant sleep routines, breastfeeding, and soothing techniques.

      • Help new parents build their confidence and knowledge in caring for their newborn.

    • Light Household Assistance:

      • Take care of basic tasks such as sterilizing bottles, preparing meals for the baby, and keeping the baby’s space clean.

      • May assist with light household chores related to baby care, but this is typically secondary to direct care.

    • Emotional Support:

      • Offer emotional reassurance, and support the parents during their adjustment to life with a newborn.

      • Provide a listening ear and help with any concerns the parents may have.

    Overnight NCS Duties:

Overnight care is focused on ensuring that both the baby and parents get sufficient rest. The NCS takes on more of a nighttime responsibility, ensuring that the newborn’s needs are met while allowing the parents to sleep.

    • Infant Sleep Monitoring:

      • Track and monitor the baby's sleep patterns, ensuring safe sleeping environments (e.g., placing the baby on their back, in a crib with no loose bedding).

      • Help the baby fall asleep and resettle if they wake during the night.

    • Feeding & Diapering:

      • Handle nighttime feedings, whether the baby needs to nurse, bottle-feed, or be supplemented. This may include preparing formula or bottles and feeding the baby.

      • Change diapers as needed, ensuring the baby stays clean and comfortable through the night.

    • Soothing & Comforting:

      • Offer soothing techniques to help the baby settle back to sleep, including gentle rocking, swaddling, or using a pacifier.

      • Address any nighttime disruptions, like excessive crying or discomfort, to help the baby (and parents) rest.

    • Rest for Parents:

      • One of the main goals of overnight care is allowing the parents to rest, so the NCS handles all night-time baby care and provides updates in the morning about the baby’s condition, feedings, and sleep.

      • May include goals for getting baby to sleep longer, soothe independently, feel confident in their crib, and more, depending on each families unique requests.

  • Family Foundations offers families the choice of how many days or nights per week they want to receive. We require a minimum of two days per week, and offer up to seven days per week, depending on the providers availability.

    Overnights:

2 to 3 nights per week is ideal for families who want to relieve the pressure that builds from sleepless nights. Your NCS will be able to take over, and ensure you and your partner have the opportunity to “catch up” on sleep a couple of nights per week. You can choose to spread your nights out, or cluster them together, depending on provider availability.

4 to 5 nights per week is our most commonly booked package. This is ideal for families that don’t want to get behind on sleep; have sleep objectives they wish to accomplish; or who have other children who may need care during the day, not allowing parents to rest or nap after a long, difficult night. Providers who spend 4-5 nights per week with their client have high success rates for accomplishing sleep and schedule related goals.

6 to 7 nights per week is ideal for families aiming for full concierge-level services, a commitment of 6 to 7 nights per week is often the most effective approach. This arrangement proves particularly beneficial for those in high-demand careers, as well as for larger families or those with specific objectives around sleep and infant scheduling. The consistent support can facilitate a smoother daily routine, allowing families to balance their professional and personal responsibilities more effectively. Overall, this level of service is designed to accommodate complex schedules and enhance the overall well-being of all family members.

We are often able to accommodate families last minute needs for 2-3 nights per week of services, but 5-7 night packages should be booked 5-8 months in advance.

  • Family Foundations proudly offers an array of lengths for contracts, which allows families to only book exactly how much services they want (and need). We have a minimum requirement of 4 weeks and offer up to 20 weeks of services.

4 to 8 weeks of services - When utilizing overnight support for 4-8 weeks, your Newborn Care Specialist will relieve your sleepless nights, leaving you feeling rested and ready to be the best version of yourself. We will work with your infant to meet feeding goals, regardless if you have chosen to breastfeed or bottle feeding. We will introduce early sleep hygiene, encouraging your baby to sleep in their bassinet or crib independently. While your infant may not sleep through the night at the end of this package, you will be left feeling supported with ample infant education, and a strong foundation to continue building on.

10 to 14 weeks of services - When utilizing overnight support for 10-14 weeks, your Newborn Care Specialist will be able to help you establish age appropriate sleep goals for your baby, and practice various methods of soothing in order to encourage longer stretches of sleep. As we continue to build off the early sleep hygiene foundation we set in the first 12 weeks, we can begin evaluating what methods work best for your family. Your Newborn Care Specialist can also create a custom daytime schedule for your family, which will guide you through naps, daytime feedings, and activities that encourage infant milestones to be met.

16 to 20 weeks of services - When utilizing packages of 16-20 weeks, your Newborn Care Specialists can guide you and your infant through the “4-month sleep regression.” While often coined as the most difficult and challenging time, where sleep goes out the window, your Newborn Care Specialist can help you focus on all the amazing development that comes during this developmental burst. Not only will you have a baby who is laughing, rolling, and engaging with you, but you will be well on your way towards “Sleeping Through The Night” status as your Newborn Care Specialist helps your baby maintain their foundational sleep skills, by remaining consistent and focusing on the end goal.
